Fall 2009 Newsletter - The Sun Still Shines: The Grand Plan Behind High Sensitivity
Dear Friends,

If you're new to this newsletter, welcome! If you’ve been subscribed and have been following, thank you for tuning in during the past year.

I am so excited to visit your email box and share some things that only we as a group can relate to. I have to tell you something that I’ve never said before. I believe there is a grand plan behind keen sensitivity. I've always felt something of a deep connection to Spirit because of my sensitivity. And I have seen the challenges of my sensitivity transform into strengths that are valuable to others.

A few years ago, I felt a nagging feeling that many sensitive people like me had been hiding in the woodworks waiting until it was "safe to come out" and be honest about what they feel, sense and know. Something in me felt pushed to write a book about my own childhood feelings and perceptions to help me understand more about myself and to help me begin to "come out" about how I honestly saw the world.

The writing of this memoir freed me from the burdens of the past that held me back. It allowed me to access parts of me that had been hidden and underused. I let myself be counseled and trained by a wide variety of teachers so I could become a coach. I believe we were gifted with keen senses for reasons that a lot of us didn't before understand. But some understanding is beginning to reveal itself as the world begins to experience a great upheaval in so many ways.

A colleague recently wrote the following to me:

"I feel like a major transformation is trying to take place...so many people I know are going through major changes, setting new boundaries, letting go of old things that do not work -- and struggling to make sense of it all...and this has been going on for a few years now...but it seems it is reaching a more critical mass..."

I have personally experienced many major changes in my life in the past five years. These shifts have initially brought confusion but then led me to have clarity about what some of the challenges have been for, both on a personal and global scale. If you are feeling or experiencing an emptiness, a difficulty making things happen, health difficulties, very raw senses or losses of many things, you may be actually coming closer to the blossoming of the truest version of you. And you may be finding others who relate to what you are thinking and feeling and coming together to learn and grow.

What follows is a feature on the grand plan behind keen sensory perception. Thank you for your interest and being part of this growth and learning journey with me.

With warmth,

Jen

The Grand Plan Behind Sensitivity

For me the journey as a "more sensitive" person has been a search for answers to all of the questions I needed to know to put my heart at rest. This search led me to new insights into the purpose and potential of this heightened perception. It is endless, the doors that can be opened by healing our hurts and sharpening our gifts. The doors are many and they lead to unimaginable places. However this process of searching for the answers to the questions that compel us can be confusing and even jarring if we are living without guidance to help us understand the process. So I'm going to cover some points that help explain away some of the confusion and point out what I sense it is all for.

I believe that we suffer or have suffered some pain through our sensitivity for two distinct purposes. The first purpose  is to stay pure of mind and heart. The world's ways make us want to steer clear of things that bring us down and instead preserve our innocence. This innocence is like a child's. It understands the big picture of what is happening in the world.

We've been born with a pull or desire for strong spiritual connection, which compels a lot of us toward prayer, time in nature or other ways of meeting divinity. Preserving our purity keeps us attuned to our inner knowing of what is false and detrimental to the good of the world. Where this is at first very painful because of having to witness the world damage itself, and also having to live and sometimes participate in those sometimes damaging systems through work, etc., we eventually can transcend this pain and see a greater plan.

Of course this doesn't make us perfect or whole or good above others. We are human too and we make mistakes and hurt people just like anyone. What I am pointing out here is simply that our ablitlity to see the big picture is something we will use as we become called to advise in the world with the wisdom we have gained. The pain we have felt will help us relate to others we are helping as we will understand their suffering firsthand.

The second purpose for being in the world as sensitives is that pain and challenge are very effective change agents. Our higher consciousness knows this. I believe the change agents are meant to wake us up so we remember who we are and what we are capable of. Why pain? Well, the reality of human nature is that people are more motivated to grow from pain and challenge than to grow when feeling comfortable. The reason I am coaching today is because I endured a series of pitfalls and deep hurts that gave me a burning desire to learn the path to inner peace. Why us? I'm not sure, but I'm sure that will be understood later.

By the time I took on my first teacher, I had already experienced the grief, fear, shame, and anger stages of sensitivity. And like millions of other sensitives, I had no idea that these stages WERE stages!!! My teacher explained these stages to me in great detail, while showing me how each stage could be transcended, leading to other stages, like courage, acceptance, unconditional love, joy and bliss.

I believe the pain of the stages of anger, fear and shame are all by design. It’s so we can return to who we are in essence and express that, which is the key to finding the peace that we are here to find. When we find that peace, we bring heaven right here to Earth!

With each passing day I am discovering so much about the nature of life and our place in it as people with hearts for the world. There is an enormous potential that this carries. But the best part about understanding human potential is that it redirects us from worrying about changing others. Once we allow our potential to flower, we feel at peace which affects the hearts of other passively.

I believe one person’s achieving inner peace is more powerful than that person donating millions of dollars to a charity; more powerful than one person’s efforts of activism; even more powerful than an individual writing a bestselling book that helps millions. This is not to say that all of the things named aren’t of value, it is just to demonstrate how powerful one person’s inner peace can be to humanity.

Imagine what would happen if all of the readers of this newsletter awakened their inner peace! I will say it in many ways in future newsletters. It is the main message I think for each and every human being on Earth. Your inner peace is the most powerful thing you can do to make the world better. (For more on how to get there, stay tuned to this newsletter. I am also available for coaching sessions.)

What Does the Future Hold?

I believe the more you and I learn about how to express our true nature in a humble but powerful way, the more the world will look like heaven.  I know that you don’t often get enthusiastic feedback from society about your ability to “sense” and “know” but I hope you DO feel inspired and encouraged about WHO you are, exactly AS you are, because that is a very important piece in transcending what is unwanted.

Everything within me tells me that “sensitives” will be a contributing part of the global shift from the current information age to the incoming inspiration age. I can see a day not too far ahead when empathy, intuition, and high sensitivity are very valued—perhaps first seen as trendy and extremely desired, and then later becoming a highly-prized trait. This is not to say that it is better than other traits, or worse! It is just valuable and necessary in the world or else it would not have been created in you to be expressed. Likewise, those without the trait of high sensitivity have equally valuable gifts that they have been given to be expressed in the world.

As you go about your life, watch the world. Keep an eye out to see how creativity, inspiration, intuition, heart-centered decisions are showing up in larger pockets around the globe. Notice the popularity of themes about higher perceptivity showing up in books, television shows and movies. We can watch this trend in the world and use it to measure where things are going on a planetary level. Accept this shift toward the interest and recognition of our natures with grace and humility, remembering that with our abilities, comes responsibility to be compassionate to a world that might not be able to see you and I as deeply as we see the world.

The more I learn, the more I realize how much there is yet to learn! So, I will always have teachers. I hope you have teachers, too. Now is a time for us to discover ourselves at our essence. There is a lot of exploring to do. I hope you'll keep tuning into this newsletter so we can explore together!

"I'm Scared of My Emotions Taking Over"

Keep it under control. It's a message you've always been told about your strong emotions, and now you tell it to yourself.

If you've covered your pain deeply in the past, you may subconsciously be blocking opportunities for this pain to rise to the surface. This is tied to fear of emotions taking over and getting out of control.

Meeting your pain with your awareness is a very gentle way of acknowledging the pain and slowly taking fuel away from future fires.

The next time your strong emotions get triggered, go somewhere where you won't release your emotions on anyone else. See if you can sit with them alone and feel them in your body, saying, "I notice you." Allow your emotions to be ok without judging them or stuffing them away.

If you need to yell, cry, or hit something, for goodness sake, DO IT. Just do it where you are far from others and where you will not harm anyone including yourself. Some examples would be driving to a solitary forest and yelling or crying in your car. Or beating the bed with a tennis racket while saying all that you need to say. This is an extremely powerful outlet and also a huge step toward finding your empowered voice.

When pain is allowed and accepted as part of you, potential physical illness and depression  related to suppressed emotions can be avoided. Also, when emotions are released in a healthy way, the pain slowly loses its power to take over when triggers happen.

We all have our triggers. They are a part of living life. That's why empowerment is so vital. When we realize that we have the power to use our wisdom to master our emotions' tricky natures, we find ourselves living a more peaceful life.

Eventually you'll find that allowing and observing your feelings as they get stirred help you become a wise and active student of what your emotions are telling you about your hidden pain.

With each bout of anger or tears, you actually get to acknowledge your hidden hurts. This not only takes the steam out of future reactions, but it also permits potential disorders or disease from getting a grip in our bodies (remember our strong mind body spirit connection!)

So what you and I have seen before as full fledged frustration could actually be valuable wisdom and healing waiting in the wings! What a great way to turn fear into power.
